2023 is shaping up to be a very fun and interesting year in paint color trends! With deep blues, forest greens, and fun pops of color, 2023 paint trends embrace a whole rainbow of earth tones in a bold, personality-filled way.

Where do Paint Trends Come From?

Paint trends are technically dictated by color experts–fashion, paint, and design. However, they don’t come from the personal tastes of these professionals. Instead, they’re meant to be an embodiment and prediction of what everyday non-color-expert people choose in their homes. Then these color experts add their professional touch to help us not only choose the best colors within current trends, but help us to pair those with supplemental colors and accents to help take those colors and put them into a cohesive and beautiful whole.

Top 2023 Paint Trends

2023 paint trends come from a place of being ready to step out and live unabashedly, as well as from a place of self care. We were cooped up during the COVID-19 pandemic, which made us gear our color preferences toward more natural tones. We craved stability, fresh air, and life, and we translated that into earth tones within our home. In 2023, we continue this earth tone trend, but with a very important twist: as homeowners (or renters), we’re becoming more confident in expressing our personality and more considerate about our own self-care and quality of life. Colors are becoming bolder and more fun (love it), expressing personality, but still tending to do so in steady, down-to-earth ways.

Deep Blues & Earthy Blues

One of the top paint trends in 2023 is expected to be blues. Primarily deep blues, but also earthy, dusty blues in rooms such as bathrooms or living rooms. Blue is a universal “favorite paint color,” meaning blue walls are typically the most widely appreciated of all paint colors. In 2023, we expect this paint trend to find its way into more homes, bringing deep blues into master bedrooms, theater rooms, living rooms, and more.

Pair it with: Deep blues pair best with natural elements, such as natural woods, gold, and big-leafed houseplants. With dusty blue, pair it with natural creams or whites, and, of course, natural woods (albeit lighter is better with the lighter blues).

Forest Greens & Mossy Greens

Last years trends bought us gorgeous mossy greens, and 2023 is no different. However, in 2023 we also expect this paint trend to get deeper and bolder with more deep forest greens. Green is becoming a new neutral, and we have to say, we love it! Nothing brings the serenity and grounded-ness of natural elements into the home like a beautiful, natural green paint color. Use this color in living rooms, kitchens, or even for an updated front door.

Pair it with: Natural elements, natural woods, gold, black, light and airy plant elements.

Greige

Greige combines beige and gray, cooling down the browns in beige, but also warming up the cools in gray. The combination is a more modern, universal neutral with a wide enough array of tones as to pair with most any color. If you’re still not quite ready to embrace bold earth tones, greige may be the 2023 paint trend update your home needs. Greige is a beautiful, natural paint color that brings feelings of comfort, harmony, and contentment. Choose a warmer greige if you want to bring warmth and coziness into your home, or a lighter, cooler greige to make rooms seem bigger and brighter.

Pair it with: A universal neutral, greige pairs well with creams, whites, and browns. It is a great neutral coloring for base walls if you intend to go with a bolder color on an accent wall or two; just be sure to match the undertones of the greige with the accent color you choose! Like most paint colors right now, greige will look great with natural elements–woods, metals, and bold houseplants. If you’re unsure which greige is right for you, ask our color experts at Jones Paint & Glass and they’ll be happy to help!

Raspberry & Dusty Rose

Earthy reds such as raspberry and dusty rose are also projects to be a popular 2023 paint color trend. Think of these colors as an updated, modernized southwestern red. This color brings similar warmth and earthiness to the home, but doesn’t necessitate southern decor to validate. Instead, raspberry and dusty rose pair well with whites, creams, natural elements (are you noticing a trend here?), or even classic and bohemian elements if you prefer.

Pair it with: Raspberry and dusty rose paint colors are surprisingly versatile–the trend of your decor sets the tone for the paint instead of the other way around. Choose natural elements, contemporary pieces, country classic, or even bohemian decor to sway the vibe of your room.
