If you are working from home and seeking a space to clear your head (that’s not simply a mat in your living room), then you may want to consider setting aside space for your own home gym. Not only will you have a personalized space curtailed to you, you’ll have higher standards of cleanliness and equipment than you would at the local gym. All your membership fees and the time and money you would have spent on driving can go to building your personal space instead. Not to mention that when you work out in your home, there’s no possibility of contracting community spread diseases (cough, cough COVID-19).

Envision It

It’s important to spend some time planning before you jump into the construction phase of your home gym.  A well designed space will help boost your energy and enable you to focus on your workout sessions.  By taking into consideration what colors you’ll use, where mirrors might fit and what personal touches to add, you’ll find motivation to work out by walking through the door. Let’s talk about how!

Color Choice

Though the first thing you might think about when planning your gym is equipment (a brand new Peleton, eh?), we first should take a step back and analyze the space you’ve picked for your gym. You want your space to be conducive to your type and style of workout. If you’re more focused on strength and conditioning, you might go with a red that symbolizes heart, blood, and power. If you focus more on meditation and yoga, you might go with a relaxing color such as blue. As blue boosts productivity, consider painting an accent wall Picture Perfect blue, one of our favorite colors from Benjamin Moore. Neon colors can energize but also strain the eyes, so use neons sparingly.

Add A Mirror Wall

It’s rare to find a commercial gym without mirrors due to the fact that they are very helpful for correcting your form and, therefore, preventing injury. This is especially important as you’ll likely have no training supervision in your home gym. Some gym trainers say they are just as important as the equipment you use in front of them. Mirrors also work wonders when it comes to making a room more spacious and inviting. Not to mention that when you see how good you are looking as you hit your goals, you will be more motivated to keep going! Mirrors are exactly the thing to encourage you to work out!  If you have the space for them, definitely contact Jones Paint and Glass for custom mirrors!  We can cut mirrors to any size, and will cut out spaces for light switches and electrical sockets.

Jones Paint & Glass offers custom mirrors to fit any home gym (or commercial gym) space. Mirrors are one of the things we do best! We will send out a mirror expert to measure your space, detail cuts needed for power outlets, light switches, windows, and more, and provide an accurate installation for the mirrors and professional installation. Add Personal Touches

Lastly, make the space your own! Decide how to best utilize the limited amount of space; consider using racks and foldable equipment to utilize vertical space.  Put together a list of equipment such as balance balls, extra towels, and free weights. Don’t forget about adding a bit of mood boosting tech, such as speakers or a wall mounted TV, to hype yourself up.  Make sure that your home gym is well lit and, if you live in a hot climate, you install fans. Remember, non-slip rubber works best for gym floors and inspirational quotes can never hurt.

Time To Hit The Gym

As you are putting together your home gym, don’t get too stressed out! That’s the opposite of what we are trying to achieve here. If time and money are limiting factors consider putting it together over a longer period of time. Let us know if we can help you pick out which colors and mirrors will work with your space best!  Soon enough you’ll be ready to don some work out clothes and hit the home gym. Happy lifting!
