A kitchen makeover is one of the most overwhelming makeover projects that a homeowner can undertake. Even more so if you’re on a tight budget. Kitchen makeovers are expensive, messy, time-consuming, and take one of the most important rooms out of commission for an unseemly amount of time.
So you may think.
But even a budget kitchen makeover can stun.
Start with the color. Once described as “band-aid and scrambled egg” color, one kitchen makeover started out with a (much needed) paint job that covered up the “scrambled egg” yellow walls with Devoe Paint’s gorgeous Oriental Ivory. And the “band-aid” brown was covered up by a much needed White on White by Devoe Paint.
The cupboards were given a makeover too, with a fresh coat of paint and some new hardware. We love the green-grey used on some of the lower cabinets.
Since this kitchen was a budget makeover, there were a lot of budget-friendly changes that had big impacts:
- Since the homeowner didn’t want to spend the money on a new backsplash, he painted over the tile for a fresh, clean look. For tips on how to repaint tile effectively, talk to your local Jones Paint & Glass expert.
- The homeowner couldn’t afford a new kitchen island, so he repurposed an old lab table he found (covered in paint splatters), and gave it a fresh coat of black paint.
- Since he couldn’t afford a whole new remodel, but wanted to make the kitchen window seem bigger and make the ceilings seem higher, the homeowner purchased some Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Wood Shades (also highlighted in this Earthy Bedroom Redesign).
- Last but not least, a mirror above the sink makes the room seem bigger and gives a better dimension to the kitchen space. Just make sure it’s high enough that you don’t have to constantly wash water splashes off!
The one splurge that the homeowner did make? A new stove. It had to be done.
