Earthy Brown Bedroom

Bedroom Before Redesign

Here’s a quick look at the “before…”

It finally happened. Our once-seafoam-green guest bedroom has been transformed into a brown, meditative earthy bedroom paradise. We peeled off the Buzz Lightyear stickers, put on a fresh coat of paint, and picked out a few earthy decor pieces. Now we finally have a room that we won’t be embarrassed to have guests stay in!

Here’s an example of the awesome decor that we chose for the guest bedroom. We love using old books in our home decor, and these vintage copies of Heidi Grows Up and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland are no exception. And while books on a bookshelf are nice, we’d rather stack a couple choice books under a simple, succulent terrarium. We couldn’t help ourselves — we had to give into the terrarium trend…

Terrarium on Books

This room sat empty for a while because it is small, cramped, and was seafoam green… So to make it more useful, we made a kind of off-the-wall (pun intended) decision:  We popped off the door to the walk-in closet. We considered for just a moment repainting it in the same velvety tan that we used on the rest of the walls, but – as luck would have it – we ran out of paint.

Instead of seeing this as a hindrance, we saw it as an opportunity to do something a little bold:  we painted it an earthy green instead. As soon as we rolled the first stroke, we couldn’t have been happier about the decision. The contrasting color helps to draw the eye to the extra space, making the room seem bigger and more open than before.

The closet transformation opening the room was the best move for this earthy bedroom, but the SECOND-best move was the Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Wood Shades. What do you think?
