Announcing our newest paint arrival: Paint du Coco, traditional real chalk painting products for professional, artistic finishes on any surface.
A love affair with chalk painting products began when DIYers everywhere sought versatile and creative paints that were beautiful and easy to use.
Out of a cloud of shabby-chic idée fixe, chalk paint emerged. With it came an elegant adaptability to suit any DIY need from distressed to polished, cottage to castle, with little preparation or expertise.
Chalk paint is perfect for all sorts of DIY projects, including:
- Furniture like dressers, hutches, bookshelves, and tables
- Decor such as picture frames, birdhouses, figurines, and more
- Cupboards in bathrooms, kitchens, or storage areas
- Doors
- And more!

So how do you use Art du Coco’s Chalk Paint?
As part of the launch of this new, fabulous product, we hosted Natasha, the creator of Paint du Coco at our Provo location for a workshop with clients and a hands-on training for our employees.
During this workshop, we learned the following tips for painting with Art du Coco Chalk Paint:
- There is no need to prime or sand clean surfaces, which makes this product easy and painless to use! We’re not the only ones who hate the “prepping” stage in DIY projects, right? Right?
- Using a clean brush (like one of the brushes designed by Art du Coco), dip the tip of the brush in and let it soak. You don’t need to “overload” your brush – a little goes a long way!
- Make your first coat of paint in horizontal strokes. Make sure there is firm pressure between your paint bristles and the surface of the are you are painting.
- Let the first coat of paint dry while you clean your brush (making sure your brush stays damp).
- Press hard, using firm pressure while you paint your second coat of paint using vertical strokes. The chalk-on-chalk will make this second coat more difficult to paint due to friction between the particles. This second coat will also dry more quickly than the first coat.
- Finish with Paint du Coco wax to protect and seal the surface — buff with cheesecloth to your desired sheen!Do your first coat of paint in horizontal strokes (make sure there is pressure between the surface and paint bristles), then feather very lightly to even out the coat.
