Screen Repair & Custom Screens for Windows & Doors in Utah

A torn, bent, or ill-fitting window screen is more than an eyesore — it lets insects in, reduces airflow efficiency, and can make your windows harder to operate. Jones Paint & Glass has been fixing and building window screens for Utah homeowners since 1938.

We offer two services: screen repair (re-screening existing frames and repairing bent or damaged components) and custom screen fabrication (precision-measured, built-to-fit replacement screens for any window or door). Both services are available at all seven of our Utah showroom locations, and we can also schedule on-site consultations for larger projects or difficult-to-transport screens.

Bring your damaged screens in to any Jones Paint & Glass location, or call to schedule a consultation.

Window & Door Screen Repair

Not every damaged screen needs to be replaced. If your frame is intact and in good condition, re-screening is a fast, cost-effective solution. Our screen repair services include:

  • Re-screening: Replacing torn, holes, or pet-damaged mesh in an existing aluminum or vinyl frame
  • Frame repair: Straightening bent corners and replacing broken or missing frame clips and tabs
  • Spline replacement: Replacing the rubber spline that holds mesh in the frame channel
  • Hardware repair: Replacing broken tabs, latches, and pull handles on sliding screen doors

Custom Window & Door Screens

When a screen frame is too damaged to repair, or when you need a screen for a window that never had one, Jones Paint & Glass custom-builds replacement screens to your exact measurements.

Our first priority on every custom screen order is accuracy: we measure the window opening precisely so the screen fits properly — not too tight, not too loose. A poorly fitted screen won’t seal against the frame and can fall out or admit insects despite appearing intact.

Screen Types We Carry

  • Standard Fiberglass Screen Mesh: The most common choice. Flexible, rust-resistant, and easy to re-screen. Good visibility through the mesh and reliable insect protection. Available in gray and charcoal.
  • Aluminum Screen Mesh: More rigid than fiberglass with slightly better durability. Less prone to denting and holds its shape better over time. Available in charcoal and silver.
  • Pet-Resistant Screen Mesh: Heavy-duty polyester mesh that resists punctures, tearing, and pet claws. Seven times stronger than standard fiberglass. Ideal for homes with cats or dogs who push against screens.
  • No-See-Um / Fine Mesh: A tighter weave that blocks tiny insects like no-see-ums and gnats that pass through standard mesh. Useful for properties near water or areas with heavy gnat populations.
  • Security Screen Mesh: Stainless steel or aluminum mesh that resists cutting and forced entry. For ground-floor windows where security is a concern.

Solar & Sun Screens for Utah’s Climate

Utah receives some of the highest solar intensity in the continental United States, particularly in Southern Utah and the St. George area, but significant UV exposure statewide. Solar screens are specifically engineered to block UV rays and solar heat gain before they enter through the glass, reducing air conditioning load and protecting furniture and flooring from UV fading.Solar screens are rated by their openness factor — typically 80%, 90%, or 95% solar blockage — and are available in multiple colors to complement your home’s exterior. They install in the same frame position as regular window screens.Jones Paint & Glass can help you select the right solar screen openness factor for your window orientation, local climate zone, and desired balance between heat reduction and outward visibility.

Microban® & GREENGUARD® Certified Screen Options

Our screen mesh options include products with two industry-leading certifications that set them apart from standard screens:

  • Microban® Certification: Built-in antimicrobial protection that inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew on the screen surface. This helps screens stay cleaner longer — especially important in humid Utah microclimates and for households with allergy sensitivities.
  • GREENGUARD® Certification: Certifies that the screen materials meet strict chemical emission standards for indoor air quality. GREENGUARD certified products are verified safe for use in homes and environments where air quality matters. These certifications are not available on screens from most mobile screen repair services or big-box home improvement stores. They represent a meaningful quality and health advantage.

Should You Repair or Replace Your Window Screen?

A common question we hear at the showroom. Here’s a practical guide:

Repair is the right choice when: The aluminum or vinyl frame is straight and undamaged, only the mesh is torn or has holes, the frame corners are intact, and the screen still fits properly in the window opening.

Replace is the right choice when: The frame is bent or warped and won’t sit flat, the corners are cracked or broken, the screen no longer fits correctly in the opening, the mesh is severely deteriorated across most of the surface, or you want to upgrade to a different mesh type (solar, pet-resistant, etc.).

Not sure? Bring the screen into any Jones Paint & Glass location and we’ll take a look and give you an honest assessment. In many cases a repair is all that’s needed and we’ll tell you so.
